Dr. Richard D. Jenkins, Vice President – Architectural Coatings, is responsible for driving profitable long-term growth for the Architectural Coatings Global Business Unit. This Business Unit portfolio generates nearly 1 billion US Dollars of revenue for Dow. Jenkins is a member of the Leadership Team that sets and implements the strategic direction of the Dow Coating Solutions Market Facing Business.

Dr. Jenkins has held a variety of technical and business leadership positions in North America and overseas. Jenkins hired into Union Carbide as a Research Engineer in R&D at the UCC Technical Center in South Charleston, WV, in 1990. He joined Dow as part of the merger between Dow and Union Carbide in 2001.

In 1996, Jenkins moved to Singapore as the Technology Director for Union Carbide Asia Pacific, where he managed a team of technical professionals in Asia and the Middle East, and was responsible for the technology of multiple business groups including Latex, Surfactants, Gas Treating, Water Soluble Polymers, Biocides, Solution Vinyl Resins, and Peroxymeric Chemicals.

In 1998, Jenkins was named Regional Marketing Manager and Business Development Leader for UCAR Emulsion Systems in Asia, and held this position concurrently with the Technical Director role through 2001.  

From 2002 through 2005, Jenkins repatriated to North America as Commercial Director for Specialty Latex Americas. During his tenure, the Specialty Latex business in North America grew profitably, setting records for volume, pricing, unit margins, and total variable margin, while simultaneously undergoing a major asset transformation.

In 2006 Jenkins was named Global Strategic Marketing Director for Dow Latex, and developed the marketing organizational structure and strategy across the Paper, Carpet and Specialty Latex value centers.

An active leader in the coatings industry, Dr. Jenkins is a member of the Tau Beta Pi and the Omega Chi Epsilon engineering societies and has received 29 patents, published over 70 scientific papers, and received UCC’s Corporate Fellows Technology Award in 1994 and UCC’s Chairman’s Award for Technology Leadership in 1995.

Jenkins and his wife Rose live in Cary, North Carolina, and have two children. He earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M in 1986 and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University in 1990.
